Comfortex offers two styles of skylight shade - the first is the Balcony and
the second is the Soprano. The fundamental difference between the two is
that the Balcony employs a cord operated pulley system whereas the Soprano
employs a gear-track pulley system.
The operating mechanisms of both are hidden - to raise/lower the shade you use the handle attached to the moveable rail.
There are pros and cons to each system the Balcony is less expensive, is flexible enough to accommodate most angles and to be used in horizontal and vertical applications. However, the cords can't handle a tremendous amount of weight and so there are size restrictions particularly with the heavier blackout fabric.
The Soprano on the other hand is capable of handling much larger sizes but is not as versatile as the Balcony and so there are restrictions on the number of angles in which it can be employed. Unlike cords, the gear track is unlikely to break and so if you can use the Soprano it's by far the higher quality skylight shade.
Skylight Shades are for inside mount installations only.
